Artifact removal for Unmanned Aerial System multispectral imagery based on tensor decomposition methods

DTU Compute, section for Statistics and Data Analysis, is looking for a talented candidate to carry out her/his Master thesis project as a collaborative effort between DTU Compute and DTU Miljø.

Multispectral images acquired on board of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) provide unprecedented opportunities to monitor vegetation status and functioning at spatial scales compatible with field instrumentation and field management. UAS, such as hexacopters, acquire overlapping images that are mosaicked into larger images to produce ortho-photomaps.

These ortho-photomaps might be affected by artifacts, such as clouds, vehicles or other temporarily occurring objects. The aim of the project is to employ tensor decomposition methods to de-convolute these artifacts for corrected image reconstruction. Python will be primarily used for data analysis and visualization. Ideally, candidates should possess skills/experience within multivariate statistics and/or multivariate image analysis.
