The global water scarcity and the growing
energy demand are well-known problems that are amongst the major challenges of
this century. Insufficient access to clean water is not only a problem in
developing countries and third world countries, but affects industrialized
nations as well.
Despite substantial efforts in the recent
years, 663 million people remain without access to drinking water sources and
the population growth outpaces the progress made.
Water scarcity and energy production are
closely connected issues, since the production of energy requires a
considerable amount of water and drinking water production is often an
energy-intensive process.
Experience with separation processes or biogas experiments preferable, but not strictly required
