Recent experimental studies have highlighted an intricate vortex formation past the flying seed of dandelion (mælkebøtte). The experimental studies were supported by axisymmetric flow simulations approximating the drag-enhancing bristles (the pappus) as a porous disk. The present project aims of studying the full 3D geometry to enable analysis of the symmetry breaking of the vortex potentially resulting in vortex shedding .
The project involve:
Creation of the detail geometry (CAD).
Simulation of the flow at different Reynolds numbers and angles of attack.
Characterization of the flow regimes.
