The inner control loop of each
element of the park, e.g. wind turbines, solar converters and central battery
management system (BMS) will maximize its individual power production. The main
goal of the project is to investigate different high-level control strategies in
order to successfully coordinate the performance of the individual elements and
improve the park performance. Several goals might be considered, e.g.
electrical loss minimization, curtailment minimization, reactive power control,
etc. which could be combined and weighted to achieve an aggregated optimal
response. This is a challenging opportunity for motivated students with keen
interest in controls, wind and solar energy to work in a leading-edge
industrial topic. The student is expected to perform the following tasks:
- Review and understand the existing technical
regulations and relevant literature related to Hybrid parks.
- Understand the main control principles of the
each individual plant element, e.g. wind turbines, PV converters, BMS.
- Investigate different control strategies at the
park level considering different time frames, e.g. based on the current
available forecast information.
- Discuss the value of the proposed solution(s) in
terms of robustness, reliability, grid compliance and expected economic
benefits. Evaluate their expected performance.
