Goods and products are shipped over long distances by sea.
Perishable products need special preservation (for example, refrigeration) when
being shipped, to reduce waste generation and maintain product quality upon
delivery. Different configurations for shipping containers can be used in order
to obtain best results in terms of container performance from economic point of
view. However, choosing best configuration for a shipping container from environmental
point of view may be challenging. This project aims at comparing two reefer
container configurations used by MAERSK shipping company and identifying the
best solution in terms of environmental performance. The work is done through applying
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology.
