This project will develop a river basin model for the Upper Niger River Basin down to the Niger inland delta. The model will consist of a lumped-conceptual rainfall-runoff model and a hydrologic routing model. Model outputs will be compared with different types of remote sensing data which may include radar altimetry from CryoSat, GRACE total storage change estimates and Sentinel-1 SAR water extent.
The software environment will be QGIS and Python. You will learn GIS techniques, Python programming and get an overview of modeling and remote sensing techniques for inland water applications.
