Due to restrictions on the use of HFC-refrigerants and increased use of flammable and mildly flammable refrigerants there is an increased focus on minimum charge systems for heat pumps and refrigeration. A way to minimize the charge of a system is to use compact heat exchangers such as minichannel heat exchangers and to keep all vessels e.g. receivers as small as possible.
The project aims at investigating possible charge reduction in different components of the heat pump. Models for estimating the refrigerant charge should be developed. This involves detailed calculations of the components as well as an investigation of the dynamics of the system.
