In Copenhagen the
wastewater treatment plants are aiming at turning the plants into water
resource recovery facilities. A project called VARGA (VAnd Ressource
Genindvindings Anlæg) is evaluating and testing how essential parts of the
circular economy concept can facilitate the wastewater treatment plants in
becoming energy producing and recover nutrients from the wastewater and solid
waste for use in agricultural production.
At DTU Environment we
are participating in the project and applying eco-efficiency analysis to
evaluate the new resource recovery technologies and operation strategies.
Eco-efficiency is able to evaluate the optimal solution by combining the
environmental (from life-cycle assessment) with the economy evaluation.
This projects offers
insight into the world of eco-efficiency, life-cycle assessment and wastewater
and solid waste treatment - and connects you with the other partners in the
VARGA project (BIOFOS, Envidan, etc.).
We have different
options for BSC or MSc thesis projects that can be done as part of the VARGA
