The purpose of this project is to perform a screening
evaluation of flood risk in Odense and to identify the (economic) potential for
adaptation in a number of climate scenarios. The following steps will be
Set up a (coarse) 1D-2D flood model for the city
of Odense based on an existing 1D model of the pipe network.
Perform flood simulations for a variety of
combinations of extreme rainfall and sea level (up to 50 events)
Assess economic flood damages for all events based
on the methodology applied in the climate adaptation plan of the City of
As a result, we will obtain an overview of the flood damages
that will occur for different magnitudes of flood hazards. Subsequently, we can
use this information to compute expected damages in different climate scenarios
by assigning return periods to the simulated events. In addition, we can make
assumptions on different protection levels against flooding (e.g., no coastal flooding
for sea levels below 1.5m) and compute the resulting reduction of flood risk.

in MIKE and you should thus have an interest in working with a detailed,
complex model for a whole city.
