Build an award-winning biosensor and travel to Eindhoven with the DTU SensUs team

Are you staying in Denmark for the beautiful summer and you want to demonstrate your potential by working in an exciting project? Would you like to earn ECTS credits in advance so that you can dedicate more time to other activities in the future? Do you want to travel and earn recognition at an international competition? This is the opportunity you've been waiting for!

SensUs is a yearly international student competition on sensors for health. The whole SensUs organisation and the homonymous competition aim at accelerating the development of sensors for better healthcare. On this new edition, the competition focuses on rheumatoid arthritis and challenges 14 teams of students from all over the world to design, fabricate and demonstrate their own biosensor for measuring Adalimumab. 

Every year, DeTectUs represents the Technical University of Denmark at the SensUs competition. The award winning DeTectUs team consists of students coming from different areas of knowledge. Life scientists devote themselves to the development and optimisation of the bioassay. Physicists and electrical engineers fabricate, assemble and program the analytical device. Industrial designers focus on the design and usability of the final device. Last but not least, project managers and innovators reach out to the different stakeholders involved, work on the value proposition and elaborate the business plan for the innovative idea. The DeTectUs 2019 team has been working hard over the last few months, but there's still plenty of work to be done!

You will work on:

  • Validation of the antigen-antibody interaction using ELISA
  • Surface immobilization​ of peptides on Au surfaces
  • Characterization ​of the surface immobilization using analytical instruments
  • Development and optimisation of the biorecognition assay

Period of the project and expected workload

  • From May/June to end of August 
  • Minimum 10+ hours a week
  • Highly flexible schedule
