Mapping Earth's crustal magnetic field with satellite data
Geological structures in the Earth's crust are magnetized, which means they produce local anomalies in the geomagnetic field. By mapping these crustal anomalies information on plate tectonic history and heat flow in the Earth may be extracted.
In this project, the student will develop and test a new data processing scheme to use with geomagnetic data collected by ESA's Swarm satellite mission in order to produce improved global maps of the crustal magnetic field.
In particular, new techniques for identifying and treating disturbed orbits will be implemented and tested.
