Electrokinetic transport is important in many engineering
and environmental applications. This project focuses on electrokinetic (EK) techniques
for solute distribution and mobilization in saturated porous media. Such
techniques are particularly promising in low-permeability matrices where other
methods are typically not effective. The goal is to advance the scientific
understanding of charged species transport in porous media as well as to propose,
design and optimize EK applications. The project will have both an experimental
part, where electrokinetic transport experiments will be carried out, and a
modelling component, in which newly developed software will be employed to
simulate electrokinetically induced reactive transport.
The ideal candidate should be curious and interested about subsurface processes, groundwater flow and transport, and remediation techniques.
