Develop a BOINC-based service to allow everyone to donate idle computing power to ray-tracing calculations of instrumentation at large scale facilities, much like what is being done SETI@Home

DTU Physics are engaged in an active collaboration with ESS (http://europeanspallationsource.se) and MAX IV (http://maxiv.lu.se) currently under construction in Lund in Sweden. These are both on their way to become the world-leading large scale neutron and X-ray scattering facilities. This project aims to enable anyone to participate in designing the best neutron and X-ray scattering facilities in the world by donating unused computer power, much like the SETI@home project. The interface will use the same technology as SETI@home, which in principle could give researchers access to unused computing power across the globe. A main task in this project is to invent a workflow which ensures that errors in computations are contained, and that data is accessible. We will use world known ray tracing tools McStas and McXtrace and validated models, to test the interface before deploying to the world.
