Offshore wind turbine structures consists of a foundation (in the project we will consider monopile foundations), a tower, and a nacelle housing the generator. The dynamics of the wind turbine structure is influenced by the foundation, which is relatively fixed by the soil. The tower is rather flexible, and the nacelle contains a large portion of the mass of the structure. Deriving a good and computational fast mathematical model is challanging. In this project we will look into the possibility of using a combinded finite element and modal method to solve this problem.
