SpinChem AB is the Swedish technology company behind the Rotating Bed Reactor (RBR). The RBR technology is used in many fields, such as the chemical, pharmaceutical and oil and gas industries. Now SpinChem AB is looking into the fundamental science behind its function and propose two projects for students willing to take on the research.

 

Designing a model to describe the RBR

Can the performance of an RBR be described with a mathematical model? Using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and experiments to gather data and validate their work, we offer the clever student a chance to try their modelling skills on a real case.

 

Process economy

How does the energy consumption of the RBR vary with scale? Can the RBR design be optimized to reduce the power required to drive it? What is the influence of the motor speed on the reaction time? Can this dependency, coupled with the energy draw, be used to find an optimum speed?
