Efficiency and Emission Optimization of Gas Engines with biomass-based Zeolite gas
This project is the key part of a work package in the Polygas research project and seeks to investigate the engine performance of biomass-based gas. The high inert content of +70v% is interesting as it might allow a high level of turbo charging, high compression ratio and near-stoichiometric operation, which all will produce more power, but also cause high cylinder temperatures and potentially knock and NOx.
The engine operation will be characterised experimentally at lab scale (running on synthetic gases via a gas mixer) and theoretically, with the goal being identification of the optimal operation mode for gas engines operating on 1-3 gas compositions. Key parameters are fuel-air ratio, pressure charging, power, efficiency and emissions of CO and NOx.
