Old ice-flowlines in Greenland

Satellite images show lines of dust on many of the Greenlandic glaciers. These lines of transport are old flowlines, i.e., they indicate the direction the ice has flowed in the past. 

Considering the changes in surface elevation of the Greenlandic glaciers, the question is: Do the glaciers still flow in the same direction? 

In this project, satellite images are compared to new high-resolution surface elevation data. 

The main task in the project will be to:

  • construct an algorithm for calculating the flowpath and 
  • extract information from optical satellite images and large datasets.
