In a collaboration between DTU and the Blood Bank, Rigshospitalet, we are investigating deformability of blood cells, in both donors and patients. Cells are subject to hydrodynamic shear forces in a microfluidic channel, observed in a microscope equipped with a fast camera. This project deals with the data acquisition and data analysis of images of such cells, for which new hardware has been acquired but not yet fully implemented. The ultimate goal is to acquire an image, analyze it on the fly, and feed information about the cell back to the experiment such that downstream actions depend on the results of the analysis. One major goal of the current project is thus to provide a user friendly package that allows for the first step, namely image acquisition and as close as possible to real-time analysis. Additional opportunities like plans for development of the experimental design and control of all hardware involved will be discussed with the student.



Requirements

Programming experience with C or Python. Previous experience with image analysis and/or machine learning is an advantage.
