Motivation in team sports

Studies show that regular exercise has many beneficial properties including reduction in stress, lowering risk of certain diseases (diabetes, cardiovascular, etc), and improving cognitive functions.  Many teenages and young adults however tend to drop out of activities such as team sports as they grow older. Many of the reasons are known and include that it becomes too repetitive, lack of social interaction, too time-consuming, and generally that today there are many other recreational activities that can be pursued.  Sensomind has developed a team sports solution where statistics are collected during training. The aim of this project is to see how these statistics can be used for gamification in order to increase motivation of athletes. The project steps include:

a) analysis of different methods of gamification and tying them into motivational theory.

b) implementing a series of small game concepts in an app.

c) testing on an elite sports team (handball).

d) validating results with respect to how they motivate the players.


Large-scale AR/VR for Learning

Sports centers are generally poorly used during the day-time due to most adults being at work and schools tend to have their own sports facilities.  Sensominds sportshub platform allows the position of objects to be measured with high accuracy using an active radio tag and is used for people tracking in sports.  This opens up for new opportunities for large-scale AR/VR where multiple headset positions can be tracked with high precision across an entire court. The idea is that this could open up for new uses of existing facilities - possibly by schools or elite sports teams.  In this project it would be the goal to come up with and test different ideas how this technology could be used to create an interactive (possibly multi-person) learning experience. It could either be for learning advanced tactical concepts in team sports but it could also be for making novel applications for learning subject matters in school such as physics and chemistry.   An important aspect would be to see how physical exercise could be combined in the teaching process to create a more motivational experience.
