In this project possibilities of gasifying home garbage will be studied as a first step. A small scale gasifier plant will be developed theoretically and the syngas from gasified home garbage will be sent to a fuel cell for power and heat production. Plant design and plant efficiency will be the focus while hybrid plants as alternative solutions will also be studied.

With ever increasing demands for more efficient power generation and distribution the goal of providing an efficient small generator (about 5-10 kW) suitable for domestic use is the focus of this research. It is anticipated that the SOFC types of fuel cell will enter the commercialization phase very soon therefore it would be interesting to combine a small gsifier with SOFC plants for domestic use. Small Stirling engines has almost reached the commercialization phase thus it would be interesting to develop combined gasification–SOFC–Stirling engines for micro CHP to be used in the houses. This study therefore describes an analytical model of an integrated gasification plant with hybrid fuel cell-Stirling engine. The model quantifies the benefits of the significant symbiosis to be had from two well established technologies, SOFC and Stirling engines as well as improvement of small scale gasifier.

Different plant design will be proposed and analyzed. Plants efficiency, plant performance as well as thermoeconomy shall be investigated.
