Development of a 3-D model of Earth's electrical conductivity from magnetotelluric data taken on the Nuusuaq Peninsula /West Greenland

Magnetotelluric (MT) is a passive geophysical method that uses naturally occurring electromagnetic fields to image the electrical conductivity distribution in the subsurface. In this master work already acquired magnetotelluric (MT) data from the Northern Disko Island and the Nussuaq Peninsula in West Greenland will be used to develop a 3-D conductivity model for this region by performing dimensionality analysis and 3-D modeling&inversion. The area is characterized by paleogene basalts that overlay older sediments and the goal is to develop a better understanding of basin structures by integrating the MT data with other geophysical and geological data.

We are looking for candidates that are able to program (e.g. C or Matlab) and have a solid background in physics (electromagntics) and mathematics (inversion theory, analysis and linear algebra). In addition, basic understanding of geology and geological processes are required. The candidate should be interested in both modeling and interpretation of geophysical data and the integration with other geoscience data.
