Sensor and assay development for biosensor applications (wound diagnostics)

Background

Biosensors and microscale platforms are already part of everyday life for numerous applications ranging from assessing diabetic glucose levels to detecting bacteria in food and water. These platforms typically rely on immunogenic responses or interactions. The NaBIS group at DTU Bioengineering develop sensor platforms for biological applications in industry, clinical settings, POC and for research use. Each application requires an appropriate sensor platform, and each platform requires optimization and modification of the biological mechanisms.

Project description

The project is part of a larger effort to develop and use a point-of-care sensor device for diagnostics of wound infections. The sensor is based on immunogenic recognition and you will be developing the bioassay for the sensor.

This can include testing/development of: 
- Antibody functionality over time
- Cross-reactivity
- Binding rate determination
- Producing calibration curves
- Optimization of sandwich pairs. 
- Development of protocols for immobilizing antibodies on nitrocellulose paper.
- Investigate antibody binding properties for different buffers and surface chemistries. 

We will adjust the project content to your level and wishes to some extent. We offer Msc./B.sc. or special course. 

We expect you to have a background in bioscience. You do not need to have prior knowledge on physics, microfluidics or sensor development or have advanced laboratory skills.
