MEASUREMENTS OF METHANE EMISSIONS FROM MANURE STORAGE

Cattle and pig farms produce anthropogenic methane emissions, which contribute to global warming. Part of these emissions comes from the temporary storage of the produced manure. Currently, emissions of methane from manure tanks are unknown and emission rates are estimated based on lab tests.

The aim of this project is to quantify methane emission rates from manure tanks using a stationary tracer gas dispersion method, which provides integrated emissions from manure storage units. Additionally the project aims to investigate the relationship between measured methane emission rates and manure conditions, e.g. treatment, temperature, pH.
