How does the choice of return periods impact risk calculations and how many events are needed to perform a reliable basis for risk calculations?

Perform risk assessments for multiple return periods and compare the results.

The analysis can be done on multiple flood sources e.g. fluvial, coastal, or pluvial.

Today’s risk assessments often assess risks based on 3-6 return periods, but is that sufficient and which ones to pick?
