Development of a Tool - A GazeVisualiser for Dynamic Lighting Rendering

A GazeVisualiser tool for lighting rendering is a tool to visualize gaze (eye-tracking) allocation data points in architectural 3D space as function of lighting distribution. Despite numerous efforts in developing visual comfort models and indoor visual quality assessments through different research studies, predicting visual comfort in indoor environments still poses important challenges and limitations. The consequence of this is a high energy demand for the buildings as result of building users’ unpredictable interactions with shading devices and electric lighting.  Here relationships between gaze, glare and light in field of view has been addressed. A new factor is introduced in visual comfort prediction models, namely gaze allocation, which enables us to account for one’s gaze behavior as a function of light. The algorithm behind the proposed tool initially redefines eye-tracking coordinate system and data to the coordinates of the 3D geometry of the room. Subsequently, the coordinates of the intersection point of each gaze vectors with the 3D geometry of the space are obtained. The output result is the 3D coordinates of the intersection point in the 3D model coordinate system. In this project, the mentioned algorithm is going to be developed further to a so-called GazeVisualiser tool.

Requirements

Data analysis software (Python, Matlab), data visualization techniques, adequate Programming skills.
