Experimental study of slipstick fracture of adhesive bonded joints

Some polymer adhesives possess a complicated fracture behaviour, so that cracking occours in a combination of rapid crack jumps and stand-still, denoted "slip-stick"). Macroscale DCB (double cantilever beam) tests and microscale experiments in SEM (scanning electron microscope) will be conducted and the results will be interpreted in terms of a theories based on velocity-dependent fracture energy (e.g. Webb and Aifantis).
