Ocean currents from satellites: Accuracies and interpolation

With the launch of the ESA GOCE satellite and multiple years of satellite radar observations these observations can now be used to study the major ocean currents and potentially also their changes. _x000D_ _x000D_ The aim is to use the difference between the ocean at rest (the geoid as measured by GOCE) and the actual sea surface height measured by satellite altimeters to determine ocean currents using the geostrophic assumption and to determine with which accuracy this can be done in Coastal and Arctic regions and if changes in ocean currents due to sea level changes can be mapped from satellite. _x000D_ _x000D_ Potential use of advanced interpolation techniques can be applied to take into account the fact that the ocean currents are continous phenomenas._x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_ UddGeofysikogrumteknologi_x000D_ FagormJordensfysikogressourcer_x000D_ _x000D_ UddElektroteknologi_x000D_ FagomrSpacetechnology_x000D_ FagomrJordobservation_x000D_ Space Technology
