Investigation of Micro-Fluidic Channels

Microfluidics is the study of the motion of fluids in small structures (<1mm) as well as of the substances carried by the flow. We will characterize the dynamics of the fluids within a specific structure optimised for flow mixing and flow redirection. The final aim of the project is fast detection of low-level bio-molecules within a thin channel.

The student will be involved in one or more of the following:

1). Fabrication of the design of the microfluidic channel (@DTU Nanolab). The student will be trained on basic cleanroom processes and apply them to fabricate and inspect the device: photolithography, dry etching, scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

2). Microfluidics experiments:  The student will test the device for functionality and characterize the flow through the structure. As well, the student will compare the results with simulated values.
