Project

Contribute to maintaining a healthy brown shrimp fishery worth 40 million Euro

Publisher

Supervisor

Location

Greater Copenhagen area

The brown shrimp fishery in the North Sea makes up approximately 560 trawlers from Denmark, Germany, UK, Belgium, and France. Landings peaked in 2005 and have since varied around 35.000 tons of shrimp annually.

The fishery is currently undergoing the process of being MSC certified, which requires solid documentation that catch regulation methods are sustainable and reflect the biology of the species.

In a new project we therefore wish to fill out gaps in our understanding of brown shrimp biology and develop new survey/monitoring methods.

We invite students to visit us and hear more about the possibilities of conducting student projects at DTU Aquas new fish stable and experimental facility. We will start up experiments this fall. Contact: mvd@aqua.dtu.dk
