Project

Genetic population structure of pacific oyster in Danish waters

Publisher

Supervisor

Location

Central and West Jutland

The pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) is an invasive species in Denmark. It originally comes from Japan and Southeast Asia but in recent years, it has spread to a number of locations in Danish waters. It was originally introduced, but little is known about the origin and introduction history of the species in Denmark. Modern genetic methods can help to elucidate these issues, which will allow us to understand the current distribution of the species and predict future spread in Denmark. For the project, we will analyse SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms) in pacific oyster collected throughout its distribution in Denmark and from potential source populations.
