Bio4self - Biobased self-reinforced composites

Bio4self is a new European Horizon 2020 innovation project on ultrastrong, fully biobased and self-reinforced composite materials.

Together with the project partners, from industry and universities, DTU Wind Energy will contribute to development of novel biobased composites for structural applications.

Bio4self offers a range of options for forming interesting and challenging student projects, with focus on materials science and development. For inspiration, here follows a list of topics and tasks:
  • Multiscale modelling of self-reinforced composites composites by micromechanical and numerical models.

  • Manufacturing of self-reinforced composites by press consolidation, and other techniques.

  • Characterisation of self-reinforced composites by microscopy, single fibre testing, and density.

  • Mechanical testing of self-reinforced composites in tension, compression, impact, fracture toughness, and fatigue.
