NMR analysis of detergent composition

Quantitative knowledge of the detergent composition is important when screening for performance boosting enzymes, since surfactants, bleaching components, etc. can negatively affect enzyme activity. We have recently investigated the use of NMR spectroscopy for the analysis of detergent compositions. However, the method is limited by the manual spectral assignment and calculations. In the suggested project, a database is constructed, consisting of NMR spectra of possible detergent ingredients. Further, with the spectrum of an unknown detergent, it should be possible to automatically search the database and calculate composition of the unknown detergent. The project contains elements of chemometric, and knowledge of IT (databases) and NMR spectroscopy will be an advantage. The student can be physically located at DTU or at Novozymes Lyngby (Innovation Campus).
