Environmental effects on on the go water consumption

In connection with the introduction of a deposit on mineral water on plastic bottles, a number of producers started offering water in cardboard boxes. 

The question is what is environmentally most friendly?

Plastic bottles are a part of the Danish return system, and these are recycled with up to 90% efficiency.

Cardboard boxes are for some brands produced in Sweden is then driven to Germany for filling water and returned to Denmark for consumption. The carton used is said to be biodegradable, but there is a foil on the inside of either plastic or aluminum and a lacquer on the outside to prevent the water from seeping through. Disposal is currently therefore with residual waste. 

Asking the producers they think their products are best being it plastic or carton. 

The question is if we can get a more certain answer, which is why I think it would be a good case for a thesis projects. Questions that would be interesting to answer is:

- What role does disposal systems play

- What is the environmental effect of the different products

- How is the environmental and economic value chain for the two products

- How should the consumers be advised on consumption of the products

Requirements

Knowledge on LCA and waste would be good.
