Mapping the potential of flexible energy demand for the City of Copenhagen

Flexible energy demand in buildings can help the power system and district heating reduce CO2 emission and thus play a big role in the green transition. In this project, we aim to estimate the potential of flexible energy demand that buildings in Copenhagen have. In addition, to quantify the impacts of using buildings energy flexibility, e.g. how much peak load reduction can be achieved in district heating grids. Data-driven approaches will be developed using data collected in the last a few years. in addition, building simulation tools, e.g. Trnsys, Dymola, etc will be used for scenario investigation.

The student will have the opportunity to have an external stay in KU Leuven, Belgium for 2-3 months end of 2019.
