Danish utilities are currently implementing central drinking water softening,
which has a number of positive effects in households due to reduced problems
with lime scaling and consumption of soap and detergents.
The Greater Copenhagen utility, HOFOR, is implementing drinking water softening at their
waterworks during the next years. As part of the implementation, HOFOR has
identified a number of industries in their supply area that will be affected by
centralised softening in different ways. This can be in terms of higher water
prices, varying water quality, interference with the industry’s own water
treatment system etc.
project will continue this work and aims at increasing the understanding of how
industries are affected by centralised water softening. Activities may include
interviews with industries affected by drinking water softening, literature
review and laboratory experiments, depending
on your interests.
