Data-driven optimization of wastewater treatment plants

Wastewater Treatement Plants (WWTP), also knwon as Water Resource Recovery Facilities (WRRF) are controlled by automatic algorithms, which rely on online information from sensor. The project can develop in different direction aiming at fully exploiting the information conveyed by the existing measurements. Possible direction to investigate are:
(i) development of new algorithms for online detection of faults/irregularities through data analysis; (ii) 
setup and calibration of full Activated Sludge Model using online data for calibration for comparison of control strategies, (iii) any crazy idea
