High Voltage Cables - Earth potential rise - Lightning strikes in tall objects near cable systems

Energinet has experienced failures on underground cable systems when tall objects (such as wind turbines) in the vicinity are hit by lightning strikes, due to the resulting earth potential rise.

Energinet has established a method to prevent cable damage caused by the ground potential rises, but it may be optimised by performing sensitivity analysis and parameter variations.

The project may use a wide range of methods and tools for performing the optimisation, such as Matlab, Comsol, PSCAD, etc.

The result of this project will be implemented directly in the cable projects which are installed across Denmark.
