Assessing the distribution of liquid AC for chlorinated solvent remediation

PlumeStop® Liquid Activated Carbon™ is a new remediation technology, where suspended activated carbon particles (1-2 µm) are injected in a permeable barrier in the aquifer. The technology ideally combines rapid sorption of contaminants to the activated carbon and accelerated biodegradation by bacteria colonizing the activated carbon surfaces.

DTU Environment is involved in an ongoing pilot test in collaboration with the Capital Region, Rambøll and Regensis. A primary aim of the pilot test is to evaluate and document the distribution of the injected PlumeStop® in the soil matrix. Student projects focusing on different aspects in connection with the distribution and quantification of PlumeStop® in the aquifer are possible. The project will have a strong applied component and will be based on laboratory and/or field work.

Requirements

Students should preferably have basic experience with experimental work.
