Sustainability in textile recycling

Production of textiles, whether natural or man-made, requires use of resources and can be associated with substantial environmental emissions. The “fast fashion” allowed for faster turnover of clothes (i.e., textiles), but also resulted in significant amounts of waste textiles generated every year. Most of the waste textiles are not recycled nowadays, and either end up in a landfill or are incinerated. This projects aims at looking closer at the technologies available for textile recycling and assess their performance from the environmental perspective. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tool EASETECH is the core instrument to be used in this work.

The project will be done in close collaboration with relevant industrial partners.
