Background

Danisense proprietary Flux-gate DCCT technology is based on a closed core flux gate detector wound on soft magnetic material. Although this approach ensures highest performance and best immunity, there are certain applications in the area of measuring and troubleshooting power systems where the end-user would rather trade some of the excellent performance for ease of installations i.e. a split core / clamp-on DCCT which can be put on and off an existing electrical conductor without breaking the connection first.

 

Objective

You start by investigating relevant prior-art and competitor approaches to making micro Flux-Gate sensors (uFG) which could be placed in a slot of a closed magnetic core or in the air-gap of a gapped magnetic core. You propose approaches for excitation and sensing of the uFG signals so that satisfactory performance is achieved. You benchmark the performance of the new uFG approach to Danisense state-of-the-art FG detector, assess the pros and cons of the former and propose applications where uFG sensor could bring a significant competitive advantage.

Requirements

University students with background in electrical engineering in their final semester, having the necessary knowledge and interest in magnetics and signal processing by electronics.
