Frost resistance of concrete

In Denmark and other countries that experience freezing temperatures, frost action will damage concrete that is not frost resistant. Infrastructure facilities and other societal assets are at risk, and therefore it is vital that we improve our knowledge about concrete frost resistance.

At DTU-BYG, we both conduct fundamental research in the mechanism(s) leading to frost damage, and research in the frost resistance of special types of concrete, e.g. pervious concrete. We also work to develop and improve relevant test methods.

The common denominator of our student projects is that they all include experimental work. This can be combined with statistical analysis, modelling, etc. It is also possible to carry out the project in cooperation with a company (such as concrete admixture producers, concrete ready-mix plants, or laboratories specialised in testing construction materials).
