3d print eller additive fremstillingsmetoder tillader bygning af komplekse strukturer med optimale egenskaber. Projektet går ud på at bygge og teste periodiske materialer og strukturer med lineære og ikke-lineære egenskaber.

TopOpt gruppen på DTU Mekanik (www.topopt.dtu.dk) har en "Form 2" 3d printer som kan printe med fleksible materialer. Dette giver mulighed for at bygge ekstreme og/eller hierarkiske materialer med negativt tværkontraktionstal, ikke-lineært response, lav vægt eller andre specielle materialeegenskaber. Sådanne materialestrukturer kan være resultat af topologioptimering. Projekter indenfor området kan omfatte opstilling, kalibrering og test af 3d printeren. Fremstilling og test af ekstreme 2d og 3d materialer og strukturer. Verifikation med lineær og ikke-lineær Finite Element Analyse.
