Screening of replacement refrigerants for individual heat pumps

Individual heat pumps providing heat for space heating, domestic hot water heating and ventilation air heating in e.g. single-family houses typically use HFC refrigerants such as R410A or R134a. These refrigerants are soon being phased out due to their high global warming potential (GWP).

This project aims at investigating possible replacement refrigerants including hydrocarbons and low-GWP HFC’s (the so-called HFO’s). Through numerical modelling and simulation the seasonal performance of heat pumps using various alternative refrigerants should be evaluated and compared.  






Requirements

a solid background in engineering thermodynamics and numerical moddeling of thermal energy systems.
