Project

Eco-efficiency of secondary water supply

Publisher

Supervisor

Location

Greater Copenhagen area

The water utility Fors A/S is looking into possibilities for providing secondary water for industries and housing together with Brendesen Textil Service A/S, Boligselskabselskabet Sjælland and Fr. Dahlgaard A/S. Rainwater or reused water can be used for purposes where drinking water quality is not required, e.g. for doing laundry or flushing toilets. The project aims to develop and different technological solutions and evaluate its effects for different stakeholders and the environment.

DTU Environment’s role in this project is to review the state of the art of secondary water technologies and to carry out an eco-efficiency evaluation of the different solutions. The evaluation builds on an assessment of the economic implications for different stakeholders and an environmental life cycle assessment.

Master or bachelor thesis projects focusing on different aspects of the project are possible and provide the possibility to get deeper insights into eco-efficiency, quantitative sustainability assessment, and evolving developments in the Danish water sector.
