Can we use plants to replaces toxic treatment of facades?

We see the goal as a self generating, self repairing surface covering. Ideally it is something that could be simply mixed in a bucket and applied without complicated machinery, chemicals or other trickery. What needs to be identified is what materials and surface finishes are suitable and how the lichen or other growth will continue to obtain nourishment after the initial treatment is exhausted. Climate and aspect will be an important part of the success equation. Essentially it's the creation of circumstance where nature naturally flourishes in a manner that serves our needs._x000D_ _x000D_ There is plenty of information on the web (http://lichenlovers.org/,_x000D_ http://www.britishlichensociety.org.uk/) but what we are seeking is a solution that is more suitable for buildings rather than garden design.

The project can also be biased toward computational science, mapping the growth on the 64 samples we have growing on 64 concrete plates in the experimential site at DTU Civil Engineering, and creating a digital Tool that can simulate the growth of the Lichen.
