Optimization algorithms for finite-element limit analysis

Finite element limit analysis (FELA) is an efficient method for computing the limit load, i.e. the load that causes failure of a structure. This is relevant for many applications of civil and geotechnical engineering, e.g. design of offshore wind turbine foundations. The method is a special case of the general finite element method and the problem is cast as an optimisation problem, where the scope is to calculate the factor of safety on the applied loads on the structure. Additional details are provided in the attached project description.
