Dynamic hybrid park simulation

The main goal of the project is to investigate different hierarchical control architectures to manage the dynamic response of wind and solar generation at the hybrid park level. Several criteria will need to be considered, such as reliability, efficiency and robustness. This is a good challenge for motivated students with keen interest in controls, wind and solar energy to work in a leading-edge industrial topic. The student is expected to perform the following tasks:

  • Review and understand the implications of the existing technical regulations and relevant literature related to Hybrid parks.
  • Implement a simplified hybrid park benchmark model, e.g. considering a small group of turbines and panels.
  • Design, develop and test suitable control schemes for dynamic simulation studies.
  • Discuss the value of the proposed solution(s) in terms of robustness, reliability, grid compliance and expected economic benefits. Evaluate their expected performance.
