Targeted Degradation of Harmful Metabolites

Many species of enteric bacteria produce metabolites that can cause harmful systemic effects in humans. This project will focus on identifying potential strategies to degrade these molecules. To do so, we will harness the power of functional metagenomic screenings, enzyme engineering and also culturing techniques. Once identified these enzymes will be cloned in E. coli in order to validate their function and evaluate their capabilities. 
The objective of the project is to prove degradation or modification of the target substances.

The project can be shaped into a special project or thesis.
