Project

Durability of natural stones in Nordic climate

Publisher

Supervisor

Location

Greater Copenhagen area

Durability has to be considered when selecting natural stone as cladding, floor tiles for outdoor exposure. The selection of natural stone for buildings is not only a design issue but is definitely an engineering challenge related to the long-term material durability. The long-term deformation and gradual strength loss of marble panels has resulted in safety problems and increasing maintenance costs of several building sites around Europe, e.g. Finlandia Hall - Helsinki, Danish National bank – Copenhagen and La Grand Arch de la Defénce - Paris.

In the pdf-file two detailed project descriptions are presented.
